Where do Academy Award Winning Directors come from?

Where do Academy Award Winning Directors come from?

We love them... they let us dream... they are able to show our dreams... sometimes they won, sometimes they lose... here are the Winners from 1929.
But... Where do they come from?
UncleOscar is very curious and would like to share with you this funny but interesting research.
Curiosities
Apart from the first edition in 1929, where we had two winners for Best Director (one for Drama and one for Comedy), the other 85 had just one winner for Best Director.
In 1962, Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins both won for Best Director for West Side Story and, in 2008 Joel Coen and Ethan Coen won for the direction of No Country for Old Men.
Since 1929 only FOUR women were nominated in this category:
Lina Wertmüller - Seven Beauties (1977)
Jane Campion - The Piano (1994)
Sofia Coppola - Lost in Translation (2004)
Kathryn Bigelow - The Hurt Locker (2010) THE FIRST WOMAN WINNING FOR BEST DIRECTOR
