Lil Joe Yule Jr. jumped on the stage when he was less than two years old in a Theatre in Chicago while their parents were performing in a vaudeville show.
His career started in 1927 with the comic series "Mickey 'Himself' McGuire", and in 1934 he signed a long-term contract with MGM, also thanks to Selznick that noticed him in early 30's.

The famous Warner Bros and MGM cartoonist Tex Avery, the creator of Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Droopy, Screwy Squirrel and Porky Pig, brought on the screen his innovative style in cartoons creation. In 1940's he worked with Fred Quimby at the MGM becoming one of the famous and talented animators ever, out of the Walt Disney' universe.

In 1941 while working at the Warner Bros he directed Hollywood Steps Out, a short Merrie Melodies starring caricatues of the Hollywood's most famous celebrities. Mickey Rooney is the last surviving star that appeared in Hollywood Steps Out.
The very short scene, starring Rooney with Judy Garland is referring to Handy Hardy, the series of movies starring Mickey Rooney, a young boy that always had problems with money and girls. For that role in Andy Hardy, Rooney won a Juvenile Academy Award in 1939.

The fortunate film series Andy Hardy started in 1937 and lasted 20 years and 17 movies, starring Mickey Rooney and other famous actors like Judy Garland, Douglas Fairbanks, Lana Turner, Lionel Barrymore and many others.

He had his own sitcom show The Mickey Rooney Show: Hey, Mulligan, that lasted just one year from 1954 to 1955, and the carachter of Mulligan was created by Blake Edwards remembering Andy Hardy.
During the 80's he appeared on TV in three famous series like Love Boat, Murder, She worte and The Adventures of the Black Stallion.
Since 1944 he has been married eight times and his first wife has been the amazing Ava Gardner.
He has been acting in over 200 films and in 1983
he won the Academy Honorary Award "In
recognition of his 50 years of versatility in a variety of memorable film
performances."
